Erik Major

Raised in the US midwest in a family and school where music and arts were encouraged,

by the age of 13 I had learned piano and guitar, played in a folk music group, sang in a barbershop quartet, performed in an opera, and helped start a rock band performing a show for the Colonial Hills Elementary School student body.

I started playing drums in bands with friends as a teenager.

In lederhosen, “Hansel and Gretel” opera at Ohio State University

I moved to Olympia, Washington, where I studied literature, theater, music history and recording for 2 years at Evergreen State College. I took Afro-Cuban conga drum and Ganhaian drumming lessons.

Drumming with “Conifer Bog” at the OK Hotel, Seattle

I move to Seattle in 1990. My performances and bands ranged from indie rock, to improvisation, noise, and jazz.

I expanded to include reel-to-reel tape loops, electronics and turntables, DJing, and live improvisational radio shows.

After moving to the East Coast, I began to incorporate more of my non-drumming interests together, such ukulele, the Hornaphone, turntables, piano, and electronics to create mixes and songs, as well as DJ’ing and producing music under the moniker P TWANG SOUND.

I record and compose solo and in collaboration with friends.
